Featured Collection
This is a collection of ten paintings from current body of work, "Immortal Photograph", which are all watercolor pieces depicting figures influenced by Victorian tintype photography. I exhibited these paintings along with a selection of prints back in the summer of 2024.
Artist's Statement
Immortal Photograph is focused in its subject, more limited in its palette, and larger in its size than my previous work. It continues my practice of depicting figures across time but focuses on a particular setting: the American Southwest during the Victorian Era. The paintings and prints resemble “tintype photographs,” a common technique of photography at the time. The figures I draw are not random people, but characters with backstories and personalities. I created these pieces because I wanted to explore each character’s past and their relationships with one another. Through this collection of watercolor paintings and mixed media etching prints, I portray people from different eras to show why they matter, and why they still connect with us today.
