Out of all my women characters, I designed Clementine to be the most outwardly masculine. This coincides with her tomboyish personality and the shifting political movement of second wave feminism as the time. The 70s introduced women wearing pants, suits, and jumpers into the mainstream, so I wanted to show this within some of my characters. I based Clementine's style off of people like Meiko Kaji, Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, all women I believed Clementine would respect for both their work and their unique representations of femininity.
Clementine is a character whose style I plan on changing throughout the series, as she begins to find her identity as an adult. The series will introduce Clementine as someone more unsure of herself in terms of fashion, and this only escalates once she meets Evangeline. She finds herself significantly influenced by her presence, and although she would never admit to this, wanting to impress Evangeline as well. This becomes apparent through Clementine's choice in more floral patterns, or wearing skits. I also purposely used Stevie Nicks as an influence, seeing as she is an influence to Evangeline's appearance as well. However, as the story unfolds, Clementine's confidence in her own appearance becomes more confident and consistent, leaning towards a masculine aesthetic.
