Evangeline's character was originally inspired by the queen of disco herself, Donna Summer. Not only is Evangeline's appearance heavily inspired by her (as well as Chaka Khan, Diana Ross, etc.), but her clothing is too, mainly within her formal wear. After researching and observing 70s fashion, I had decided that the outfits she wears to parties and clubs should appear flashy and risqué. Meanwhile, her everyday clothing would have a whimsical aesthetic, which I based off of figures such as Stevie Nicks. These outfits have an emphasis on long flowing dresses, floral patterns, and lace. She almost always wears dresses, and tends to accompany them with lace-up boots and sun hats. She doesn't wear a lot of jewelry on account of her sister's necklace, which she wears everyday. Evangeline tends to mix current fashion with pieces she wore when she was human. Besides her sister's cameo necklace, she also continues to wear corsets and stays. This also explains why she only wears dresses or skirts; as a callback to the Victorian era she originated from.
I wanted to emphasize the difference between her casual and formal wear, to show the difference between the vampire and the human (or what is left of it). It leaves her human identity to the daytime, while pushing her vampire identity into the night, where of course she does most of her hunting. For Evangeline, fashion reflects her current perspective on her own morality, with floral and flowing dresses being worn during times she wants to feel like the innocent young girl she used to be. However, I think her formal wear shows a specific confidence she did not have as a human, so this nightlife style shouldn’t be taken in a solely negative perspective.
