Last week, I attended the “Printmaking by the People: Posters for a Re-imagined Declaration of Independence,” exhibition from Mural Arts Philadelphia, hosted by Parkway Central Library. The work being showcased was an enormous collection of prints created by Philadelphia printmaking students. The designs for these prints were based on the 250th signing of the Declaration of Independence and other related themes/topics. I was one of the many print makers in Philadelphia recruited to teach these workshops where students would learn about different printmaking techniques and the upcoming 250th anniversary. This project will culminate in the creation of Mural celebrating the 250th anniversary, based off of the printmaking designs and discussions brought up throughout these workshops.
I am grateful for the opportunities I have received from Mural Arts Philadelphia, and am looking forward to seeing the end result of this project. Check out my students and other printmaking students work over at Parkway Central Library!
