I am excited to announce a new long-term project I have started: writing and illustrating my own children's story! Recently, I have been brainstorming more ideas for stories, particularly short stories. Many of them have been in the genre of horror, except for the children's story that I am basing off of my character from "Evangeline and the Latchkey Kid", Kitty. While this version of her is still going to be named Kitty and retain her personality, she is only loosely based off of the character. She is much younger, and surrounded by a different cast of characters, mainly her brother, Samuel. More importantly, the setting I have her is only slightly based off of the one in ETLK. In fact, I am still unsure if I will have this take place in the 60s (the decade Kitty grew up in while she was in elementary school). The story is about Kitty having a bad day at school, and her big brother taking her to special place in Philly's local 'Wissahickon Creek' to cheer her up.
The working title is " Kitty makes a friend", but I plan on changing this in the future, most likely after I am finished with writing the story. I am currently working on an outline, showing each page's text and pairing illustration. I hope to be done with the first draft by the end of next month, or at least by April. After that, I will move on to edits of the text/ illustration outlines, and then I will finally get started on the illustrations. I will be using watercolors to illustrate my pieces, just like the image above. The image featured was actually what inspired this story in the first place, and I plan to create the illustration in a similar style. I also might use this image as the cover, but it's not set in stone. As for layout, book binding, and distribution, I am unsure about the details, but I will post updates when I have an idea about how I want to publish and sell my book. I am looking forward to finishing this project and sharing it with all of you!
